Plot Summary

Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must … and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.

The old gods have no power in the south, Stark’s family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne. -Goodreads

Final verdict

A very bold book. The political aspect of the story blends with fantasy in a right way which is really impeccable. Characters have depth. The writing is very tedious and the details inside are unimaginable. Yet, the pacing is really slow. The book is not perfect, but stands out from other fantasy book. If you think this has a happy ending, you’re absolutely wrong.

Ranking the Seasons of Game of Thrones

image

Season 5 of the hit fantasy drama HBO series, Game of Thrones just ended with another shocking and unexpected death. Fans of the series (including me) is again in the sufferings of 9 months hiatus waiting for Season 6 to come out on spring of 2016. But before we officially say “goodbye” to the fifth season, let’s rank the first 5 seasons of the Game of Thrones from worst to best. If you haven’t watch the series yet, I have done my best to exclude the main plot twists of GoT, but there may still be minor plot details I have left. But hey, why did you even read this article if you haven’t finished watching it?

5. Season 5

image

There is no doubt that the last season of Game of Thrones is messier compared to the past seasons. The creators of the series, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, have some excuse to that. The source material of the TV program which is the book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R. R. Martin is not yet finished, forcing the writers to stretch the fifth book “A Dance with Dragons” so that there would still be material left for Season 6 in case “The Winds of Winter” (6th book) will not be published on time. But that ended up bad for the season because along Season 5, there is not that much plot happening. It is good, but clearly behind the goodness of the first four seasons.

Best Episode: Hardhome (Episode 8)

Worst Episode: Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken (Episode 6)

4. Season 1

image

The beginning of the show is of course in no. 4 of this list. No one can argue that after Season 1, the show becomes better and better season after season (except season 5) leaving the one that started it all lower than seasons 2, 3 and 4. It made us taste that this show is different from the other shows because no main character is safe and everything is just unpredictable.

But, the Red Wedding…

Yes, the Red Wedding is the TV event that shattered every viewers of the beloved series. It surpassed the surprise death of a main character in season 1 and it is the biggest game-changer to the fight for the Iron Throne. But aside from that, season 3 don’t have anymore to give. The storyline of other characters just fell off and the anticlimactic Season finale just made everyone cringe.

Best Episode: The Rains of Castamere (Episode 9)

Worst Episode: Mhysa (Episode 10)

2. Season 2

image

Action packed and highlights every character in the series with good development. Season 2, adapted from the most action-packed book of A Song of Ice and Fire, A Clash of Kings, showed how entertaining the show will be and tells the story in break-neck speed. Even though they introduced a lot of new characters, the show doesn’t seem to be bloated, rather, the viewers became more eager to know more of them. Premium Television watching at its finest.

NERDY SCORE : 95%

Best Episode: Blackwater (Episode 9)

Worst Episode: The Nightlands (Episode 2)

1. Season 4

image

From the season premiere to season finale, this part of the series is the complete package. Season 4 is one of the most fluid storytelling ever to be shown on television. It is so impeccable, that some of the scenes included in most of the episodes are better than it’s source material.  No wonder it is the most praised season of almost all critics and viewers. Action-packed, amazing writing, acting that stands on its own and good flow of the plot.  It is perfection.

Attack on Titan Season 1: Original Concept, Bad Characterization

Attack on Titan is creating a mass hype to the public now that Season 2 is ready to set TV ablaze again for the long-awaited comeback of the Titans on 2016. The new anime series spurred millions of fans worldwide and the success was multiplied indefinitely now that the live-action film is set to hit on theaters on August 1, 2015. The Season 1 English release ended just this November 2014 and the English dubbed version was well received by die-hard anime fans and critics alike. With all this hype surrounding the AoT, I decided to watch the first season.

image

Good Points

Attack on Titan is one hell of an action-packed anime. The fighting scenes are simply one of the best I have watched and the animation is just over-the-top. No one can argue about how intense, bloody and violent the fights between the humans and the titans. The concept is original. It’s like a zombie apocalypse but this time, they are fighting somewhat indestructible foes and everything is just unpredictable because the Titans are nearly impossible to kill. The story is unique because like Game of Thrones, everyone can be killed, but somehow the surprise element is not that heavy anymore because the concept of killing main characters is already done in many TV Series today. All in all, it is enjoyable and at the same time excruciatingly painful to watch. The anime series is simply for adults only.

image

Bad Points

But, most of the time, you will be left cringing because of the bad translation to English. Some words used in the dialogues are just too ridiculous to hear and does. Also, there is some bad voice casting happening because you can hear that their voice and accent somehow doesn’t fit to the appearances and characteristics of the characters. It also suffers in the lack of likable characters. The main character, Eren, is very arrogant and really bossy. When I’m watching his character grow on the first episodes he is just screaming loudly on killing Titans, and doesn’t think clearly on the decisions he is making. He is hot-tempered and you can see that his behavior is somehow annoying, even though he is gallant and persevere. That ended up making him really desperate.

Final Verdict

Attack on Titan Season 1 is violent, unique and  truly amazing to watch. But the character development should be improved and the English translations should be cleaned.
